SECOND ANNUAL AVICOM
(Columbia, SC) - On February 23, 2024, the Challenger Learning Center in Columbia, SC, witnessed the thrilling spectacle of the Second Annual AviCom, a prestigious event organized by Greenville Technical Charter High School in collaboration with Triple Tree Aerodrome. This remarkable occasion marks South Carolina as the only state in the nation to crown a "State Champion" for simulated flight among high school students.

Supported by industry leaders such as the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA), Aircraft Supplies and Academics (ASA), the University of South Carolina-Aerospace Engineering, Leadership in Flight Training (LIFT) Academy, and the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, AviCom continues to garner immense support, fostering a rich environment for aviation education and career development.

Regional champions (based on congressional districts) along with the Host School, At Large Bid, and the returning champions from the 2023 AviCom, competed fiercely for the coveted state championship title. Amidst the intense competition, the spotlight shone brightly on the winners:

•The team State Champion for the simulated flight was a Homeschooling group from Greenville County,
supported by EAA Chapter 249.

•Individual State Champions emerged in a remarkable tie between Katelyn B and Ethan M from Academic
Magnet High School in North Charleston.

"We are proud to showcase South Carolina as a leader in aviation education opportunities through AviCom," remarked Robb Williams, Executive Director of Triple Tree Aerodrome. "The partnership between Greenville Technical Charter High School and Triple Tree exemplifies how industry can support events like AviCom to help develop future leaders not only in the aviation industry but in our community. We are looking forward to supporting this event for many years to come." AviCom is a competition designed to recognize those who are most likely to be successful, safe, and proficient aviation professionals. It offers a platform for collaboration and skill development, fostering lifelong connections within the aviation industry.
