The South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC) staff deploys an eBee X fixed wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV – “Drone”) with an Aeria X 24 mega pixel sensor to capture aerial imagery at public use airports throughout the State. This imagery can be used to assess the Airport approach surfaces and ensure that they are free of obstructions and other hazards to air navigation. The drone can also be deployed to gather and update airport aerial imagery.
The Airport Development staff includes a certificated Part 107 pilot. SCAC also participates in the South Carolina Interagency Drone Users Consortium (SCiDUC). Requests for UAV mission support can be made using the form found on the “Forms & Documents” page of the website.
The SCAC Airport Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Program Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Point of Contact (POC) is Mr David Smith / dwsmith@aeronautics.sc.gov.
